Marcus O'Conner was born in 1972 to Ainsley and Tam O'Conner in Edinborough, Scotland. He was a scrapper from the day he was a child, often ignoring his books to pick fights in the school yard. At the age of 15, he left home and went off to join an illegal pitfighting circuit based out of Glasgow. The pay was poor, the hours were rough, and the injuries were real, but it was a living and Marcus loved a good fight. In 1995, while competing in another pit fight, Marcus met his wife, Rhona VanDieman (now O'Conner), who was there scouting out potential wrestlers for a Scottish Wrestling Foundation, a country wide promotion that sought to legitimize pit fighters and small area leagues. It was love at first sight. Though he was beaten and bloodied, one eye swollen shut, Rhona saw something in Marcus that he still can't understand to this day. Rhona's father, Kier VanDieman, was a major promoter for the SWF at the time, and though he encouraged his daughter to participate in his work, he heartily disapproved of the pairing between Rhona and Marcus, especially since Marcus was 23 and Rhona was merely 17.Despite Kier's many objections to their romance, he could not deny the talent Marcus possessed. So, Marcus was recruited to the SWF immediately. In May of 1996, Marcus won his first title, becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in SWF history, a record that remains unbroken to this day. Rhona continued her work scouting for the federation, promoting matches, and managing Marcus' career. Rhona and Marcus dated for two years and in 1997, he proposed to Rhona. There is still some controversy that circles around the SWF circuit as to whether or not Marcus' success in the business was due to his romance with Rhona, but fans of O'Conner will heartily protest that that Marcus held the title for almost three solid years. It is also known that Kier wanted to discourage the couple's romance so strongly, that he made Marcus defend the title at almost every major event. In early 1999, Marcus suffered a neck injury which would take him out of competition for several months, ending his long reign in the SWF. It is believed that Marcus' injury was partially due to Kier's ferocious intent to dissuade Marcus and Rhona's relationship. This event caused a great rift between Rhona and Kier, but she would not let that stop her from advancing through the ranks of the SWF, to the point that she was managing entire regions and earning the respect of the wrestler around her by training alongside them and participating in several matches. Marcus tried to help coach her during this process, while recovering and going through physical therapy. During this time, Marcus travelled with Rhona learning the trade of promoting the business. After realizing Marcus' dedication to Rhona, he finally consented to their marriage. Rhona and Marcus were married on September 9th, 1999 on the Isle of Arran. Rhona helped negotiate the "Crossing of Hadron's Wall", which brought the wrestling federations of Britain and Scotland together. In 2001, Marcus was well on his way to wrestling again and Rhona had won the Lasses Championship on several different occasions. With all their success, Rhona and Marcus decided to move to Edinburgh. Tragically, in 2004, Kier died at the age of 49. Rhona was elected chairman of the SWF in his place, which she refused. She took several months off away from the business to mourn the loss of her father. During that time, Marcus suffered a severe leg injury that, even with the help of several surgeries, ended his career. He was able to walk, but he would never step a foot into the ring again as a wrestler. Due to Marcus' love for the business, he joined Rhona in management until 2005, when the company was incorporated into the European Alliance Association of MMA. They still retained minor positions of management, but it wasn't the same. So, in 2007, they received a call from Alex Remis, a former member of the EAA, who had just recently debuted a promotion called VCW. He offered them the positions of General Manager on the two shows, Monday Night Showdown and Thursday Night Brawl. They heartily agreed, packed what belongings they had and made their way to the States, relocating to Ann Arbor, MI and began working for the VCW.
Marcus resembles more of a bear than a man. He has large broad shoulders and towers over most at 6'11". His red hair is neatly groomed into a braid that hangs down to just below his shoulders. A well-trimmed beard covers his jaw and over his upper lip and it scales the side of his face to his hairline. He has strong, hardened features and pale green eyes. His hands are slightly scarred, betraying a life of hard work and labor. He is often adorned in suit jackets, but will always find a matching kilt.Vital Statistics
