Rhona O'Conner, wife of
Marcus O'Conner, is currently the General Manager of
Thursday Night Brawl on VCW.
Rhona O'Conner was born Rhona VanDieman on July 18th, 1978 in Kinlochleven, Glencoe, Scotland. Her parents, Ilsa and Kier Ewen VanDieman, worked in the Aluminum Smelting factory the village was built and based around. In 1985, when Rhona was seven, Ilsa was burned in a plant accident and had to leave the factory. With her mother out of work, the family was close to losing their house. Buried in debt from medical bills, Kier became part of the Highland Fighters Association to make extra cash. The HFA, an area wide promotion, put on mixed martial arts and pit fights in the basements of local bars, in school gyms and in theaters. Kier gained some notoriety in the Highlands and became the the general manager of the HFA in 1988. Running the promotion took him away from home nearly every night, and eventually he was making enough money to quit working at the factory all together.
By 1990, Kier was running the HFA and helped to engineer a merger with the Grampian Region Promotion wrestling league. Two months shy of her twelfth birthday, Rhona's parents divorced. Though her mother hated violence of any kind, she had tolerated Kier Ewen's participation as a necessary evil. However, as the promoting began to play a larger part in his life, Kier was away from home more than not. Their relationship fell apart. Kier bought Ilsa a new home where she started a bed and breakfast, and he moved to Oban. For the next few years, Rhona shuffled back and forth between her parent's houses.
When Rhona turned fifteen, she moved in with her father full time. By then, she had fallen in love with wrestling and the promotion business, and begged her father to let her work with him. In 1994, Kier took Rhona with him to negotiate the creation of the Scottish Wrestling Foundation, a country wide promotion that sought to legitimize pit fighters and small area leagues. By the age of seventeen she was scouting wrestlers for the SWF. It was on such a scouting trip in Glasgow where she met Marcus O'Conner, who, at the time, was participating in an illegal pit fight.
Though her father had tolerated and even sometimes encouraged Rhona's involvement in his work, he never dreamed that she would fall in love with a "scrapper". He heartily disapproved of the pairing, especially due to the fact that at the time their courtship began, Rhona was only seventeen and Marcus was twenty three. Despite his objection to their romance, Kier could not object to Marcus' talents and recruited him to the SWF almost immediately. In May of 1996 Marcus won his first title, becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in SWF history, a record that is still unbroken.
Meanwhile, Rhona continued scouting for the federation, as well as promoting matches and managing Marcus' career. It was in 1997 that Marcus proposed to a then nineteen year old Rhona. There was some controversy as to whether or not Marcus' quick advancement was due to his romantic involvement with Rhona or his own skill, a dispute that was never fully settled. Fans of O'Conner's will point out that Marcus held the title for nearly three solid years, and that Kier wanted so strongly to discourage the couple that he insisted Marcus defend the title at nearly every major event. It was only a neck injury in early 1999 that took him out of the competition for many months, ending his reign. An injury that was sometimes suspected to be a result of such brutal punishment at the behest of Kier. Though this event cause a rift between Rhona and her father, she continued to advance in the promotion, managing entire regions and earning the respect of the wrestlers by training along side them and participating in several matches.
As he was sidelined for the time being, Marcus traveled with Rhona throughout the country, learning the promoting side of the industry. After seeing his dedication to the business and to his daughter, Kier finally consented to the marriage and the two were wed on the Isle of Arran on September 9th, 1999. By the age of twenty two Rhona was a renowned promoter and a full partner in the SWF and married to one of their biggest stars. She encouraged the federation to broaden their horizons and incorporate some smaller English promotions as well. The negotiation to "Cross Hadron's Wall" took nearly a full year, but in 2001, the SWF was well on it's way to becoming the largest promotion in all of Britain.
In 2002, with a desire to broadcast live events throughout the country, Kier began seeking larger investors. He had, at this time, been appointed Chairman of the SWF, and very rarely wrestled or fought any longer. Rhona continued to compete occasionally, however, winning the Lasses Championship belt several times. Marcus was wrestling frequently again and all seemed to be going well. The couple moved to Edinburgh.
Tragically, in 2004, Kier died at the age of forty nine. His position vacant, Rhona was elected Chairman of the SWF, a job she declined to take. Instead, she took several months off from her duties to the federation, to mourn the loss of her father. It was during this time that disaster struck; Marcus was devastatingly injured during a match. Several surgeries later the doctors told him he would be able to walk again, but he would not be able to wrestle. The couple, crushed by the unfortunate events around them, managed to keep the SWF stable until it was integrated into the European Alliance Association.
Both Rhona and Marcus retained minor management over the Scottish side of the EAA's promotions, but their heart wasn't in it. They both loved wrestling, but felt as though they were being swallowed by the EAA. In 2007, after a call from
Alex Remis, both agreed that an up and coming promotion was exactly where they wanted to be. They relocated to Ann Arbor, Michigan and began working for the VCW.

Ring Entrance
The lights dim in the arena, as mild flashes begin with the music. As the word "rains" is first sung, a curtain of sparks rains down from high above the stage. Rhona walks out, usually with microphone in hand, most frequently in dark boot cut jeans, heels, and a tailored low cut suit jacket. If she makes her way to the ring, she walks up the steps calmly, before parting the ropes and entering.
